Nature: Ground-breaking Ceremony
Address: Railroad Avenue - Dagsboro
On Saturday, November 10th, the Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Department hosted a ground-breaking ceremony for the much anticipated new fire house ground-breaking ceremony.
This historic milestone is the capstone of many years of hard work and sacrifices in order to reach this objective.
The Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Company was established in 1943, operating 2 engine companies out of a two bay/two story brick fire house located on Clayton Avenue, just west of Main St. The original fire house still stands but has been renovated for use by the Bethel United Methodist Church.
Prior to the establishment of the fire company, emergencies were handled by the Frankford or Millsboro Volunteer Fire Companies.
This ground-breaking ceremony was attended by many dignitaries and neighboring company representatives who included:
• The Honorable George H. Bunting, Jr., State Senator – 20th District;
• The Honorable John C. Atkins, State Representative – 41st District;
• The Honorable David Roberts, Chairman – Delaware State Fire Prevention Commission;
• The Honorable Robert Ricker, Commissioner – Delaware State Fire Prevention Commission;
• The Honorable William F. Tobin, Jr., Past Commissioner – Delaware State Fire Prevention Commission and Past President – Delaware Volunteer Firefighters Association;
• The Honorable Vance Phillips, Councilman – Sussex County Council; and
• Robert (Bob) Hudson, Chaplain – Delaware Volunteer Firefighters Association.
