Monday, June 8, 2015
The Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Department is mourning the loss of one of its junior firefighter members, who was tragically killed in a motor vehicle accident while responding to a reported woods fire late this afternoon, Sept. 27, 2012. The loss is the first line-of-duty death for the Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Department in its 69-year history.
On Sept. 27, 2012, at approximately 5:12 pm, the Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched for an outside fire in a wooded area on East Clogg Drive just outside town limits. While en route to Station 73 in a personal vehicle, a 17-year-old junior firefighter member of our department was fatally injured in a motor vehicle crash on Pepper Road, in the area of Jay Patch Road.
No details of the accident are available at this time. The Delaware State Police Crash Reconstruction Unit is currently conducting an investigation, and will release further details and the identity of the fallen firefighter at the appropriate time. The Dagsboro VFD will assist the Delaware State Police as the investigation unfolds.
Due to the events of today, the Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Department is currently out of service as members mourn this tragic loss. All emergency calls within the Dagsboro fire district will be answered by neighboring fire departments that are standing by at Station 73. The Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Department is grateful for the outpouring of support from the Sussex County volunteer fire service.
The Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Department extends its deepest sympathy to the family and friends of our fallen brother.
