LEWES, Del.- Authorities say a Delaware Department of Transportation worker was electrocuted Wednesday in Lewes when a lawnmower he was using struck an electrical power line.
Delaware State Police say the accident happened Wednesday at about 10:20 a.m. in the area of Hudson Road at Log Cabin Hill Road.
DelDOT identified the worker as Eric Givens, a maintenance employee from the department's Area 3 Ellendale Yard. He had been employed with DelDOT since August 2010.
Electrical power in the area was disrupted as a result of the accident and Log Cabin Road had to be shut down. The road has since been re-opened.
Police said troopers still investigating the accident. DelDOT Secretary Shailen Bhatt said in a statement, "We are cooperating fully with the authorities to find out what happened and to do whatever we can to prevent it from ever occurring again."
