Working House Fire w/ Mayday - 34284 Shockley Town Rd - Frankford

At 00:52 the Sussex EOC transmitted a box assignment sending the Frankford VFC (76), DVFD, Roxana VFC (90) & SCEMS Medic 103 to a reported house fire at the given address. Asst. Chief G. Hudson (Roxana's Duty Officer) arrived first & reported a working fire on the 2nd floor. Command 76 arrived shortly there after & Asst. Chief H. Holland established the IC. E731 arrived 2nd due & stretched an additional 1 1/2" line off E761 to side "C" Division 2 via a ground ladder. Rescue Co. 73 arrived as the 1st due special services & began opening up & throwing additional ground ladders. Also at this time TK 90 arrived & was set up on side “B” & ordered to open up the roof. With the baulk of the fire knocked the crew from Rescue 73 relieved E761's crew on Div. 2 as they were low on air. With heavy smoke & steam conditions LT Hudson, LT Betts, LT Johnson & FF M. Hudson were pulling the ceiling & opening up walls when LT Hudson's right leg went through the floor up to his thigh. FF M. Hudson immediately grabbed him & tried to pull LT Hudson out of the floor. After several attempts LT Hudson call via radio on the fire ground channel that he needed assistance on Div. 2 as he had his leg stuck in the floor. Upon hearing this LT's Betts & Johnson came to assist, but were still unable to remove LT Hudson from the floor. Feeling heat on his stuck leg & feeling his foot now tangled in wire LT Hudson declared a MAYDAY. Asst. Chief Dorey & Capt Marvel both at the window of the room LT Hudson was stuck in used their Thermal Imaging Camera to located LT Hudson. Capt. Marvel entered the room to assist, but still could not remove LT Hudson from the floor. Mean while LT Johnson, Deputy Chief Murray (76)& Capt. Willey (76) were on Div. 1 searching for LT Hudson's leg. After locating it they found it flush against the wall & entangled in electrical lines. After several attempts to disentangle & push it up through the hole, LT Johnson removed the boot allowing FF M. Hudson, Capt. Marvel & LT Betts to pull LT Hudson out of the hole. Chief Murray (76) kindly returned LT Hudson’s boot to him on Div. 2. LT Hudson now being low on air exited the structure & was evaluated EMS. Having sustained now real injuries LT Hudson was cleared by EMS & returned to his crew. Units operated for approx. 3.5 hrs before returning to service.
