Engine/Tanker 73 finds a new Home - DVFD
Monday, June 8, 2015
With the new Engine/Tanker 73 in production at the Sutphen East Plant in NY, the members of the DVFD heard of some Brothers & Sisters in need. A past member of the DVFD, Bill Shockley is a member of the (CVFD) Cheriton Volunteer Fire Department located in North Hampton County, Virginia. The CVFD's tanker was recently involved in a MVC & has had to be decommissioned. This left the CVFD in a precarious position, reducing their fleet to an Engine, Truck & small Tanker. Upon hearing this several members of the DVFD began to study the feasibility of the DVFD running 2 Engine companies & offering the Engine/Tanker to the CVFD. After the officers & members discussed the idea, & with an offer from the Bethany Beach VFD for the use of one of their back-line units in the event one of the DVFD Engines has to go out of service, the offer was extended to the CVFD to purchase the Engine/Tanker. A group from the CVFD came up to look and the Engine/Tanker & were very excited with the condition of the truck. Upon returning to Cheriton a special meeting was called & in a unanimous vote the Engine/Tanker had a new home. That week the Engine/Tanker was taken out of service, but not before running one last box assignment in Dagsboro. The following week Past DVFD member Shockley, along with several other CVFD members traveled back to Dagsboro to take their newest addition home.
