Monday, June 8, 2015
At 16:38 the DVFD, Frankford EMS, SCEMS Medics 103 & 109 & EMS 100, were alerted for a serious MVC at the given location. Sussex EOC reported a 2 vehicle MVC with 1 overturned w/ subjects trapped & 1 subject trapped in the 2nd vehicle. Engine/Tanker 73 responded, due to Engine 2 O.O.S. service for some TLC, at 16:42 under the command of Chief Glenn w/ a crew of 5. The Rescue Company hit the street under Capt. Blades at 16:43 w/ a crew of 6. Past Asst. Chief & OCFD FF/NREMT-P D. Elliott was first to arrive to find the incident as reported & began accessing the scene. Both the Engine/Tanker & Rescue Co. arrived to find an SUV on its side w/ 1 still inside hanging from his seatbelt & a compact car w/ extensive driver side door intrusion across & partially in a 4ft deep ditch. Chief Glenn established the IC w/ Capt. Blades as Extrication Officer. Crews were able to quickly remove the subject from the SUV & turn him over to be checked by EMS. Tools were placed in service on the 2nd vehicle as EMS made entry to treat the patient (priority 1). Once crews were able to remove the patient he was turned over to DVFD EMS & Medic 109 for transport, due to aviation being down due to weather. Crews operated for approx. 90 min before returning available. Little did we know this was the start of a long & very wet night in Dagsboro.
