At 1845 hrs. the Sussex EOC alerted the Dagsboro VFD, Frankford VFD and SCEMS Medic 105 on a box assignment for a reported House Fire on Piney Neck Rd. approx. 1 mile from Dagsboro's station. At 1847 hrs. Engine 731 marked on the air under the command of 3rd. Asst. Chief McCabe. After proceeding approx. 2 miles from the station Engine 731 called EOC to get any updated information as the location, they were advised that EOC was receiving numerous calls and it was believe to be a working alarm. Engine 731 went on location at 1851 hrs., reporting the location was on Bunting Rd. off of Piney Neck Rd. with a 2-story wood frame structure well involved with 3rd. Asst. Chief McCabe in command. The crew of Engine 731 deployed an 1 3/4" line and stretched it to the front of the structure but was forced back by a falling energized power line. Command made a request for Delaware Electric Co-op to respond priority 1. Once the power line was determined to be secured and not an immediate threat the crew of Engine 731 made and interior attack with the support of Engine 732 deploying 2 additional 1 3/4" lines, which was arriving. Both crews made an aggressive interior attack and preformed a primary search. Upon the arrival of Engine 736 and Tanker Co. 73 a water supply was establish to both Engine's 731 & 732. Rescue Co. 73, Engine 763 & 761 all arrived simultaneously and were assigned to ventilate the structure and to assist the interior crews with a secondary search. At this time command made a request for a 2 engine cover-up for Dagsboro out of Millsboro & Millville. After the baulk of the fire had been extinguished fresh manpower was rotated in for salvage and overhaul. Command placed the incident under control, with units working at 1930 hrs. At this time PPV had removed most of the smoke condition in the structure and with the help of the Thermal Imaging Camera that was in service during the secondary search interior began determining hot spots. After extensive overhaul it was determined all hot spots had been extinguished. At 2043 hrs. command advised units could be place in service as ready. DSFMO determined the cause to be a 4 & 5 year old playing with a lighter. 2 firefighter sustained minor injuries, 1 received steam burns to the ankle after falling through the floor during the initial attack and the 2nd received minor lacerations to the chin during overhaul while removing a bed. At 2106 hrs. all remaining units were made available for service and command was terminated.
