MVC w/ Door Pop - Clayton St. @ US Post Office

On 15 October 2002, at 12:10 the Sussex EOC transmitted an alarm to the Dagsboro VFD, along with the Frankford VFD EMS & SCEMS Medic 105 for a reported MVC on Clayton St. in front of the US Post Office. Asst. Chief McCabe being in the area made a response via POV to the scene, he was advised while enroute of a reported 2 vehicle MVC with 2 patients, 1 with facial and neck lacerations. Asst. Chief McCabe arrived on scene and established incident command at 12:13 to find a Cadillac had rear-ended a parked Jeep Grand Cherokee and traveled approx. 60 yrds. from the point of impact when it came to rest on the curb. With a large volume of traffic in the area command requested all avail. fire police to assist in shutting down Clayton St. from Main St. to Sussex St. Engine 732 marked on the air at 12:15 under the command of Capt. Donaway and advised to take a position on the west side of the scene. Upon further evaluation command determined to make patient removal easier the passenger side front door would be to be removed. Engine 732 arrived at 12:18 and advised to deploy their Hurst unit and set-up for the removal of the passenger side front door. With arrival of BLS & ALS patient care was established. The driver was coded a priority 1 and the passenger a priority 3. Once the passenger had been extricated both patients were transported by Frankford EMS to BMC. Command placed the incident under control at 12:31 with finial fire units clearing at 13:22. The cause of the crash is under investigation by DPD.
