Mutual Aid to Millsboro on Brush Fire - Hickory Hill Rd. & Handy Rd.

On Monday, 13 May 02, at 1351 hrs. with 25 to 30 mph winds the Dagsboro VFD was the first of many alerted on a mutual aid assignment to assist the Millsboro VFD on a woods fire in the area of Hickory Hill Rd. & Handy Rd. At 1355 hrs. Brush 73 marked on the air under the command of ISO Hudson and was advised to report to the west side of the incident and support Engine 833 with fire suppression on the north fire line. At 1359 hrs. Brush 73 arrived on location and deployed 250 ft. of 1" line to support Engine 833. Engine 736 was assigned to support in the same area but on the south fire line upon their arrival. At 1401 hrs. ISO Hudson requested a 2nd alarm struck for the Dagsboro VFD and requested 1 additional Engine and Tanker Co. 73 at the same time he also requested a cover up for Dagsboro. Tanker 73 marked on the air at 1402 hrs. and was assigned as water supply to the northeast side on the incident to support Brush 83 & Engine 831 & Engine 771. During the next 2 hrs. crews from Dagsboro assisted in the extinguishment of a multitude of hot spots as well as securing fire breaks. The incident was placed under control at 1505 hrs. holding all units. Dagsboro units cleared the scene in service 1528 hrs. and were in quarters avail. at 1551 hrs. releasing Millville Engine 844 from their cover assignment.
