Brush Fire & House Fire with-in 3 Minutes - Gum Tree Rd.
Monday, June 8, 2015
After a day of rest the DVFD hit the streets again. At 14:37 the Sussex EOC alerted the DVFD for a brush fire at 27040 Gum Tree Rd. Chief Engineer Layton, which was the reporting party, was on scene advising large fire & rapidly spreading through 8-10 ft pines. Brush 730 responded at 14:41 with a crew of (3) three under the command of Asst. Chief Furbush. While crews were assembling at the station, heavy smoke could be seen in the direction of the incident. Engine/Tanker 73 with (3) three was next to hit the street and was advised to divert to a reported working house fire at 27915 Peach Tree St. in Holiday Estates, also bringing Frankford. EOC contacted IC of the brush fire an inquired if additional resources would be needed to the brush fire. With Brush 730 operating alone with approx. 1 acre well involved & flames 15+ ft in the air, Gumboro was alerted to respond. Engine/Tanker 73 went on scene at the house fire with Asst. Chief Elliott as IC, with nothing evident. It determined the smoke reported coming from the residence was actually from the brush fire in the area. The Engine/Tanker cleared and responded to the brush fire where it was assigned to the north end of the scene. Frankford units which were enroute to the house fire were re-directed to the brush fire also. With the arrival of Frankford & Gumboro units crew were able to control the spread & extinguish the blaze in about an hour. IC began releasing units as ready, with final DVFD units clearing and ready at 15:49.
