MVFC Shed Fire brings DVFD on the Box - Sea Winds Sub-Division

On June 15th 2003, at 1129 hrs the Millville and Dagsboro Vol. Fire Co's and also the Sussex County Paramedics were dispatched to a reported building fire in the SeaWinds development off of Sx 341. Dagsboro Asst. Chief Donald Stevens (7317) being in the area, arrived first to find an outside shed well involved. He also provided Millville's first engine (E842) under the command of Deputy Chief Eric Huovinen the best placement for easiest access to the shed. Deputy Huovinen established command and Stevens assumed Operations. E2's crew pulled a 200' 1-3/4 handline and made quick work of the fire. Operations after speaking to the home owner advised command that there were numerous household chemicals and fuels and recommended that all firefighters in SCBA for overhaul. E731 arrived shortly thereafter and supplied E842. Remaining units were staged along the developments entrance and crews assisted with overhaul of the shed and its contents. R73 provided re-hab for crews and Ambulance B84 evaluated the homeowner for minor smoke inhalation. The fire was placed under control at 1137hrs and the scene was turned over to FM4 (lee) for investigation. Units cleared when ready and Deputy 84 terminated the command at 1210hrs.
