Building Fire - Dagsboro Mini Storage - 324 Piney Neck Rd.

Monday, June 8, 2015
On Tuesday, 22 July, at 19:35 the Sussex EOC transmitted a box assignment to the Dagsboro & Frankford VFC's as well as SCEMS for Medic 105 for a reported structure fire at 103 Piney Neck Road, Dagsboro Mini Storage. Dagsboro members already at and responding to the station could see hvy. smoke as the address was only (1) one block from the station. Engine 731 with a crew of (5) five, under the command of Deputy 73 was responding and on scene at 19:36 with smoke and fire showing from a 200' X 350', 1 1/2 story wood frame warehouse, with Deputy as IC. The crew of Engine 731 pulled a 1 3/4" line and made entry through a loading bay door. Engine 732 arrived at 14:37 and laid 100' of 5" LDH for Tanker Co. 73, and sent its crew to support the crew of Engine 731.Inteior crews advised the fire was running the roof and had only burned through in (1) one spot and no extension to the interior had occurred. Engine 761 arrived and was ordered to ladder the building as the fire was running the roof of the structure. Frankford EMS and SCEMS Medic 105 arrived and were assigned re-hab as temperatures were in the mid 90's with high humidity. Rescue Co. 73 arrived and was ordered to the roof with the crew of Rescue/Engine 763 in support. Roof crews knocked the fire with a 1 3/4" line and began overhaul, but were stopped due to the weaken condition of the roof. At this point IC special called Truck Co. 84 (Millville) to the scene. IC also requested a (1) one piece engine out of Millsboro to cover Dagsboro. Truck Co. 84 arrived at 14:48 and was ordered to the roof to assist with overhaul. IC placed the incident under control at 19:49 holding all units, working. After an extensive overhaul of the roof crews began to be made available as ready. Delaware State FMO arrived and after a quick interview of the subject on scene determined the cause to be workers on the roof, more specially a disregarded cigarette. Final Dagsboro units were made ready at 15:59 and in quarters available at 16:17. No injuries were incurred. Units Operating on Scene: Engine 731, Engine 732, Engine 761, Rescue/ Engine 763, Engine 842, Truck Co. 84, Rescue Co. 73, Amb. A-76, SCEMS Medic 105, DPD, DSFP Units Providing Cover Assignments: Millsboro, Engine 831 to Dagsboro Selbyville, Engine 884 to Frankford
