3 Alarm House Fire - Millville - The Greens

Monday, June 8, 2015
On Saturday August 30th at 1926 hours Millville VFC was alerted for a reported unknown type fire in the area of the Cripple Creek Golf & Country Club off of Irons Lane north of Clarksville. Engine 842 responded with Chief 84 Douglas Scott onboard at 1929 hours. Minutes after the initial response, dispatch upgraded the alarm to a possible house fire adding Dagsboro FD and Sussex County Medic 105 to the response. The address was also corrected to indicate the fire was located in "The Greens" development with still an unknown exact street address. Upon entering the development a column of smoke coming from a dwelling on West Chester Court was confirmed. Engine 842 arrived at 1933 hours to find a large one story, single family dwelling with fire showing from the garage roof area. A second alarm was requested at this time bringing Bethany Beach, Frankford, and Roxana to the scene. Aggressive interior fire attacks were initiated by crews from Engine 842 & 841. Ventilation as started by the crew of Truck 84. Additional tankers were requested to supplement the water supply. A third alarm was sounded bringing additional manpower and water to the fire ground. All units continued interior fire attack efforts until the structural integrity of the dwelling became questionable. Units were evacuated from the dwelling and a defensive attack was begun. The fire was placed under control at 2301 hours. Crews conducted extensive overhaul and all units cleared the scene at 0026 hours. As this fire was being fought, two additional reported building fires were handled by companies from Sussex, Worcester, and Wicomico county. Companies operating at West Chester Court: Millville, Bethany Beach, Dagsboro, Frankford, Millsboro, Rehoboth Beach, Roxana, Ocean City, Pittsville, and Willards. The Delaware State Fire Marshal is investigating the cause of the fire.
