Hurricane Isabelle keeps DVFD Volunteers Busy - DVFD

On Thursday September 18, 2003 Hurricane Isabelle made landfall on the North Carolina coast and brought tropical storm force winds to all of Delmarva. The members of the Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Department were well prepared for the storm. Starting at 07:00 on Thursday until 09:00 on Friday crews were manning two engine companies the Rescue Company. As the storm grew in intensity crews began to run numerous service calls. Crews were kept busy through out the night with downed trees into electric wires & blocking roadways, downed electrical wires, & a MVC. Flooding became a problem on Vines Creek Rd. at Vines Creek Bridge and on Iron Branch Rd. at Possum Point Bridge as tides ran some 6-7 feet above normal, several secondary roads were closed in low land areas due to flooding. The crews ran 16 Fire/Rescue calls & 2 EMS calls during the storm.
