DVFD Triples on MVFC Apartment Fire - 403 Millsboro Village Apartments

On Saturday, 10 January 2004 at 15:57 a box assignment was transmitted to the Millsboro (83), Dagsboro (73), Gumboro (79) VFC's & SCEMS Medic 103 for a reported building fire at 403 Millsboro Village Apartments. Chief 83, Wooters, was in the area and on scene seconds after dispatch and reported hvy. smoke showing from the 2 1/2 story wood frame structure. First out Ladder Co. 83 at 15:59 was directed to hit the hydrant & lay in with 5" LDH & set-up on side 1. Next in Engine 831 also reported to side 1 and crews pulled a 1 3/4" attack line and advanced it to the #2 floor. By this time the #2 flr. was well off and venting through the windows. Engine 732 under the command of Capt. Elliott was next in and staged at the access road leading back to the bldg. and ordered to have its crew report to side 1 to support interior crews. The crew of Engine 732 threw several ground ladders & checked the adjoining apartments for extension. With the arrival of Engines 832, 731 (844), 791, Rescue Co. 73 & 79 a manpower pool was established under the direction of Deputy 73, McCabe. Rescue 83 was setup on side 2 for re-hab. The crew of Engine 831 knocked the fire in minutes and crews began an aggressive overhaul. IC placed the incident under control at 16:30 holding all units, working. All Dagsboro units were released at 17:27 and ready for service at 18:06. The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Delaware State Fire Marshals Office.
