House Fire w/ Entrapment - 201 Clayton St.

On Thursday 05 February 2004, at 16:58 the Dagsboro & Frankford VFC's along with the SCEMS Medic 105, were alerted to a reported working house fire at 201 Clayton St. Prior to the arrival of fire crews (3) three passer-by's stopped at the scene after seeing heavy smoke and a glow in a #2 flr. window. At this time units were updated that they had at least (1) one subject unaccounted and still inside the residence. Ellison Bunting of Dagsboro, also a 35 yr. veteran & life member of the Dagsboro VFD, Dave Stanewski of the Millville VFC, & an unidentified employee of P & A Engineering of Delmar, on hearing someone being home, with no protective gear & prior to fire crews arriving, Mr. Bunting forced entry through a rear door and found a 16 yo female asleep on on the 1st flr. & brought her to safety, the other gentlemen search the residence and found no other persons at home. At 17:02 Engine 732 arrived under the command of Deputy McCabe, to find a 2 story wood frame residence with the #2 flr. involved. Deputy McCabe assumed IC and had crews reverse lay 5" LDH to the corner of Sussex St. & Clayton St. Next in was Tanker Co. 73 which picked up Engine 732's supply. Engine 761 arrived and was tasked with throwing ground ladders while Engine 731 (844) arrived and pulled a back-up line to support interior crews. Rescue Co. 73 arrived est. re-hab and reported to the manpower pool with hand tools. Interior advised they had knocked the fire and needed assistance with overhaul. IC placed the incident under control holding units at 17:22.
