Brush Fire - Dupont Blvd S/B

At 12:27 the Sussex EOC alerted the DVFD for a unknown fire on Dagsboro Rd. This was quickly changed to a brush fire on DuPont Blvd S/B s/o Sussex Lumber Co. While crews were assembling at the station a large column of smoke was visible in the direction of the incident. Brush 73 responded at 12:31 under the command of Asst. Chief Furbush & was advised that the EOC was receiving numerous calls & A-76 (FVFC) was on scene reporting heavy fire. Brush 73 arrived to find a 100' X 250' area of brush & woods with heavy fire & quickly spreading with Asst. Chief Furbush as IC. Engine 736 arrived and deployed a 1" & (2) 1 3/4" lines to support Brush 73. Engine/Tanker 73 arrived and was given the north side of the fire, deploying (3) 1 3/4" lines to stop the northward advancement of fire. At 12:38 IC requested the Millsboro VFC respond with a Brush, Engine & Tanker & also secure an Engine stand-by for the DVFD. By 13:14 crews had contained the fire and were mopping up hot spots. Units were clearing as ready by 13:32.
