Speed Drills 2004 - Station 73

Monday, June 8, 2015
On Wednesday 27 October 04 the Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Department held its annual Speed Drills. The series of evolutions placed crews of (4) four, in competition in 4 areas, Ladders, Vehicle Extrication, R.I.T., & Firefighter Survival. Crews were timed in each evolution, with penalties for mistakes & safety. Scenario 1 required crews to deploy a 35' ladder, climb to the roof with a set of irons, 6' hook, & chain saw. All while wearing full PPE & SCBA. Scenario 2 had crews arrive as the rescue company on a 2 vehicle MVC with 1 vehicle on its side & 1 overturned with a patient trapped under the vehicle. Scenario 3 consisted of crews acting as a R.I.T. on a large area search. Crews entered an area approx. 50 X 50 block room and were tasked with locating a downed firefighter (rescue randy) in full PPE & SCBA with PASS device activated, and removing him to safety. Scenario 4 required crews to find their way out of the survival maze. Crews in full PPE & SCBA while on air had to find their way out using a hose line after being brought into a 100 X 80 room & placed on the line. Obstacles included breaching a wall, a ceiling collapsing on them & a tunnel with wires laced through it. In both the R.I.T. & Firefighter Survival scenarios wax paper was placed of the face piece of each crew member ensuring zero visibility. The crew with the best overhaul time after adding up the times from all (4) four scenarios will be declared Speed Drill Champions at the annual DVFD banquet in January. Although awards will be awarded to the champions, this was a tremendous learning experience for all that competed. All the crews did well and a good time was had by all.
