Three Vehicle MVC w/ Entrapment

Thursday, June 25, 2020
On June 24th at approximately 0800 hours the Sussex County EOC alerted the Dagboro VFD, Frankford VFC, SCEMS, along with DSP aviation for a serious motor vehicle accident with rollover and entrapment at the intersections of Dupont Blvd and Swamp Rd. Minutes after dispatch Deputy Chief B.Blades arrived on scene assuming command and advised of a three vehicle MVC with 3 subjects trapped two of which were heavily entrapped, due to a total number of 5 patients needing transport the alarm was upgraded to a Level 1 MCI adding two additional SCEMS paramedic units, a paramedic supervisor, three additional BLS ambulances, along with another aviation unit. Upon the arrival of E73-2, under the direction of Asst. Chief T.Glenn, the crews were split to begin working on extrication of two of the three vehicles. Due to reported entrapment the Frankford VFC was added to the initial alarm for a rescue assist. Deputy Chief Blades also requested an additional engine out of Selbyville VFC to assist with landing zones for both aviation units along with an additional rescue out of Millsboro VFC to assist with extrication and scene operations. Crew's worked for approximately two hours to mitigate the incident, once all units cleared the scene was turned over to Fire Police Units, DelDot, and DSP. Both north and south bound lanes of Dupont Blvd remained closed for over five hours so the DSP FAIR team could complete their investigation. The Dagsboro VFD would like to think all assisting companies, fire police, and medics for providing their assistance. Units on scene: 73-8, E73-2, R73, R76, A76, E88-4, B88, R83, D83, B90, DSP Trooper 2, Lifenet 2, SCEMS Medic 100/103/109/206/208, EMS 19, Dagsboro PD, DSP
