It is with great sympathy that the officer’s and members of the Dagsboro Volunteer Fire Department announce the passing of Active Life Member Herbert C. Carey.  Herb joined the department in 1964 and remained very active throughout his 57 year career with the D.V.F.D., in which he proudly held numerous positions to include but not limited to President and Fire Police Captain. It should also be noted that he served with the Bethany Beach Police Department from 1970-1994 where he served as Chief of Police from 1973 until his retirement in 1994. Herbert peacefully answered his last alarm on Saturday June 26, 2021, at the age of 78. A visitation will be held from 10 AM to 12 noon on Friday July 2, 2021 at the Melson Funeral Home located at 43 Thatcher Street Frankford DE., followed by a funeral service at 12 noon. A fire apparatus procession will then escort Herbert to the internment with full fireman’s honors located at the Redmen’s Cemetery on Iron Branch Road in Dagsboro.
